February 2022 – Invoke Tax Partners is excited to announce the addition of David Dunn to the team as Director of Sales and Use Tax. In his role, David will utilize his more than 30 years of experience in the Texas Comptroller’s office to help guide Invoke’s Sales and Use Tax practice through Texas state audits and refund claims. In addition, David will lead Invoke through the resolution of Independent Audit Reviews and hearing and settlement cases.
“This is big step in the continued growth of Invoke as it is a rare opportunity to be able to bring on someone with David’s wealth of knowledge about Texas state tax laws and policies,” said Jerrod Raymond, Founding Partner of Invoke Tax Partners. “Drawing on his insight into the innerworkings of the Comptroller’s office, David will play a vital part in the training, research, marketing, and client relations components of Invoke’s overall business strategy.”
David has spent the last 30-plus years with the Texas Comptroller’s Office as a tax auditor and in leadership positions. Most recently David led the Comptroller’s Independent Audit Review (IAR) team which is comprised of highly experienced Comptroller employees tasked to resolve disputes between taxpayers, their representatives, and audit staff. Disputes involved issues relating to taxability, audit practices, sampling, estimations, and accounting methods. As the IAR team supervisor, David collaborated with reviewers, audit management, audit staff and tax policy to ensure accuracy of over 600 reports submitted by his team that included multi-national and Fortune 500 companies.
“I was consistently impressed with Jerrod and the Invoke team’s professionalism and integrity while working through state tax audit issues while I was at the Texas Comptroller’s office,” said David Dunn, Director of Sales and Use Tax. “Invoke’s integrity and professional, transparent, and collaborative approach were key factors I sought when seeking a state tax consulting firm to continue my career.” David holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has obtained 24 additional hours in Accounting and Taxation credits from the University of Texas-San Antonio. David and his wife reside in the Austin, Texas suburb of Georgetown and enjoy spending time together traveling from coast-to-coast to see their children and grandchildren.
